Biography

Máté Pálhegyi, teacher and professor, acquired his degrees at the Franz Liszt Music Academy and the Pécs Academy of Arts. Besides pursuing these degrees, he learned baroque flute, chamber music, and baroque interpretation at the Baroque Academy of Attersee.

Since 1998, besides the modern metal flute he regularly performs concerts also with period (baroque and Vienna classic) instruments as well.  Also in 1998, he recorded a Carl Philipp Emmanuel Bach with the Concerto Armonico Chamber Orchestra led by Miklós Spányi.
  • In 2001, he was invited to join the Camerata Hungarica ensemble, led by László Czidra.
  • Since 2003, he has done numerous recordings with the Capella Savaria ensemble of early music, of which he continues to be part as a guest musician.
In February of 2006, Radio Bartok selected him as Musician of the Week; his concerts are regularly aired live by Magyar Rádió (Hungarian Radio).
From 2002 to 2007, he taught flute at Weiner Leó Zeneművészeti Szakközépiskola (a prestigious music-educational secondary school in Budapest); many of his students have since gone on to earn their living as college-educated, sought-after musicians.

In addition to the above mentioned artists, due to his open-mindedness, he is working (or has worked) together regularly with such personalities as bassoon player József Vajda (whom children can listen to daily on television) Reinhard Goebel and the Musica Antiqua Köln ensemble, Miklós Spányi harpsichord artists, Bea Palya singer, Dániel Gryllus the composer for and leader of the Kaláka ensemble, Gergely Kuklis, concertmaster of the National Philharmonics, László Fassang, organ artist, the Auer string-quartet,  Péter "Peta" Lukács guitarist, Mihály Borbély saxophone artists, János "Jammal" Fekete beatbox artist, and Béla Szerényi hurdy-gurdy artist.

  • In 2003, his solo-album “La Musique” came out (reminiscent of the world of turn of the century Parisian chamber music), which has received excellent critical acclaim.
  • He is one of the founders and soloists of the Fringe Award-winning Free Style Chamber Orchestra, a highly successful chamber orchestra group of twenty, playing jazz and contemporary music.
  • Since 2007, he has been the artistic leader of Szülők Háza Családi Kulturális és Módszertani Központ (Parents’ House Family Culture and Methodology Center)
  • Since 2007 he has been a professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music.
  • Since 2009, he has been part of the “Aura Musicale” ensemble led by Balázs Máté.
  • Since 2010, in addition to his Budapest location, he is giving private lessons in Vienna.

Máté Pálhegyi’s artistic goal is to take advantage of the possibilities of improvisation, or interpretation with an improvisational intonation, within each and every style available in the practice of musical performance, in order to form a relationship in the all-time present between the composer, the performer, and the audience.

This goal is what he wishes to accomplish in the cultural life of his homeland, Europe, and other parts of the world. At present, he is forming his musical company under the name By-HeArt, of which most all of the above mentioned artists will be members. In addition, however, Balázs Kántor, solo cellist of the Hungarian Opera, Gábor Csonka, concertmaster of Free style Chamber Orchestra, and Szilvia Elek harpsichordist, as well as the Hungarian National Theatre will join the crew. Their shared goal is to renew and refresh Hungarian cultural and musical life. For this purpose, they seek to involve as many different age groups and layers of society as possible, from performers, representatives, and listeners of both the classic and what is called the alternative school of music, in order to bring about a completely new form of social and civil life.
